Macedonia & Albania - Around the lake

 

The tour will start in the morning hours. The group will be lead the professional tourist guide. The road leads by the lake shore, passing by the hotel complexes and small villages near the lake. First stop we the group will have by the monastery of St. Naum and the spring of Black Drim.  St. Naum is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Ohrid. The springs at St. Naum is part of the national park Galicica zone regime of strict protection, where passenger transport is carried out only by boat and is not permitted use of the engine. The church built by the monk St. Naum, in beginning of X century, dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel was destroyed. Many pilgrims visit his grave and believe that if they put their ear to the grave, they can hear the beating of his heart. Church celebrates this patron saint of the 5th January and 3rd of July. In the chapel of the church is the tomb of St. Naum, with frescoes of his life and his miracles. The tour continues to Albania which is 700 m away from St. Naum. Crossing the border and entering to Albania. First village that we will visit is Thusemiste,  and close to the village is Drilion – where we can see the springs that flow to the Ohrid Lake.  The place is so beautiful , with swans swimming in the lake, and it is not without reason why Enver Hoxha used to have villa there – today turned into a modern hotel. Our proposal is to make a brake here and to have a lunch in one of the restaurants. We propose to try fresh fish or grilled meat. The roads goes to Pogradec – the only city on the shores of the Ohrid lake from Albanian side.  Stroll by the lake promenade and the park “1st of May” which is the main place for relaxation and spending their free time of the local people. Then we will visit one of the local churches and mosques in the town. Possibility to enter in the city museum as well to visit the local market. The roads goes on to village of Lin, last village in Albania. You will see small villages through which railway passes by, valleys, fishermen by the lake, modern restaurants. We will enter in the village of Lin, and for the moment we will break the quite life of the villagers although they are used to this kind of visits. We will see the early Christian mosaics from the V and VI century, which have high artistic value. After visit of Lin we go back to Macedonia. Follows short visit of city of Struga, through which passes the river of Black Drim and it gives exceptional beauty to the city. Walk through the main street in Struga, where are all shops, cafes, gold smiths are located.  Visit the church of St. George. Returning back to Ohrid in the evening hours.
