Ottoman heritage in Macedonia (7 days/6 nights)

 

PROGRAM:

DAY 1: Skopje

Arrival at the Skopje airport, where group will be meet  from the representative of our agency. Accommodation in a 3*** hotel in Skopje. Free time. Dinner. Overnight.

DAY 2: Skopje

Breakfast. After breakfast we will have a sightseeing tour with a professional tour guide. Visit of the Jaya Pashina mosque from XVI century, Mustapha Pashina mosque from XV century. Both of these monuments of culture are still active today and are visited by believers. Next is the visit of Suli An, which  today is turned into a school of art. Visit to Chifte Hamam, which today is a national gallery. Organized lunch in the old part of the city. Returning to the hotel. Overnight.

DAY 3: Skopje

Breakfast.  After the breakfast, follows the visit of Sultan Murat’s mosque from the XV century and Aladza (colored) mosque from the XV century. Visit the three important monuments from the Ottoman period, which are located in the old city: Daut Pasin Hamam, Kusumli An and Kapan An. At Kapan An will be organized lunch in very authentic atmosphere. Free time for individual activities. Overnight.

DAY 4: Tetovo, Ohrid

Breakfast. After the breakfast, we will go to city of Tetovo. There we will have chance to see 2 of the most famous monuments from the Ottoman period – Colored mosque with its unique baroque style of Ottoman painting and visit of Arabat Baba teke (religious school), and former center of the Bektashi order. The road goes on by the canyon of river of Radika. Latter afternoon arrival in Ohrid. Accommodation in hotel. Short break. Organized lunch. Free time. At night possibility for organized dinner with national menu and national music. Overnight.

DAY 5: Ohrid

Breakfast. We will go to  sightseeing of Ohrid, with professional tour guide. First visit of the Ottoman monument in Ohrid – visit of the teke (religious school) from the Helveti order. The mosque in the yard of the teke is build in 1590 by Zejnel Abedin Pasa and the mosque bears its name. As we are walking by the Ohrid charsija (main street), we will see the mosque of Ali Pasha. The mosque was built in 1573 by Sulejaman Pasha. In 1823 the mosque was reconstruct by the vezir Ali Pasha, and now the mosque bears its name. Walking by the narrow streets of the old town and short break for tea or coffee in the old town. Back to the hotel. Overnight.

DAY 6: Bitola, Skopje

Breakfast.  We will go to visit city of Bitola. Bitola bears the nick name “City of consuls” because in the Ottoman empire, embassies of the European countries were located in it. It was second most important city in this part of the empire after Thessaloniki. Visit of the Bitola’s national museum, former military school, in which had education Kemal Ataturk - father of modern day Turkey. In the museum there is a room dedicated to Kemal Ataturk. Visit of the Jaja Pashina mosque and Isak Beg mosque. Visit of the Turkish hamam and the bazaar. The road goes on to Skopje. Possibility for organized lunch. Accommodation in a hotel in Skopje. Overnight.

DAY 7:

Transfer of the group to the Skopje airport.
