St. Naum - Boat tour

 

The Monastery of Saint Naum is located 29 km to the south of the Ohrid, on the banks of Lake Ohrid. The monastery itself sits high on a cliff over looking the lake. It is an Eastern Orthodox Church with many old frescoes on the walls, and some of the best Macedonian icons are housed here. The iconostasis inside the church dates to 1711 and the frescoes to the 19th century. Inside, drop an ear to the tomb of Sveti Naum to hear his muffled heartbeat.

The grounds of the Macedonian monastery is a fantastic area with amazing views over the lake. Surrounding the core of the complex is a tranquil garden looped by fountains, with roses and peacocks. The gardens behind the monastery are lovely and a great place to relax in the shade in the heat of summer. Sandy beaches hem the monastery in on two sides and are some of the best places to swim around Lake Ohrid.

During the cruise (2 hours) you can enjoy in the view of Ohrid, the summer residence of the president of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, the Bay of Bones, the church of St. Mother of God of Zahum. During the journey, we are going to stop for half an hour at the Bay of Bones to visit this extraordinary underwater archaeological attraction, which was open for the public not too long ago. Next station is the Monastery od St. Naum. Inside the Monastery we are going to visit the magnificent church of the terrestrial angels Michael and Gabriel. In addition to the legends of his mysterious gift, your guide will also show you how true believers can still hear the heartbeat of St. Naum at his tomb. Traditional lunch will be served on the terrace at a wonderful site called Ostrovo - an archaic word meaning island. Our program also offers free time and opportunity for you to go to the beach, shop at the stands with souvenirs and pearls, drink from the well-known healing spring of St. Petka, buy something, or just enjoy a journey to the springs on a dinghy with an expert guide.
